Thursday, September 11: The Inclusive Kingdom

Day 4: The Inclusive Kingdom
Reading: Matthew 8:11-12

Jesus' words about many coming from east and west to sit at the table in the kingdom of heaven challenge our notions of who "belongs" in God's family. The gospel breaks down barriers of ethnicity, social status, and religious background. What matters is faith in Jesus. This truth should both comfort and challenge us. It comforts us by assuring that anyone can come to Christ, regardless of their past. It challenges us to examine our own hearts for prejudices or assumptions about who God can use or save. Today, pray for a heart that rejoices in the inclusive nature of God's kingdom and for opportunities to share this good news with others.
