Friday, December 11 | Fighting Sin Through Beholding Glory
Day 5: Fighting Sin Through Beholding Glory
Reading: 1 Peter 1:13-16; 2 Corinthians 3:18
Devotional: How do we fight indwelling sin? Peter says, "Prepare your minds for action" and then surprisingly adds, "set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you." The battle strategy is beholding Jesus. When you gaze upon His glory, temporary pleasures lose their appeal. Your heart was made to treasure something; sin wars over what that will be. Gospel-centered living means constantly redirecting your gaze to Christ—His beauty, His sacrifice, His promises, His presence. As you behold Him, you're transformed. The things that once captivated you grow strangely dim in light of His glory and grace. Victory over sin isn't achieved through sheer willpower but through sustained meditation on the superior worth of Jesus.
Reflection Question: What practical step will you take this week to "behold the glory" of Jesus more consistently?
Closing Prayer for the Week: Lord Jesus, Immanuel, thank You for coming. Thank You for descending from heaven's glory to earth's brokenness to rescue me from sin. Help me remember daily that You are with me, that You've defeated my true enemy, and that beholding Your glory is my greatest weapon and deepest joy. Transform my heart to treasure You above all else. Amen.
