Day 3: Named for Salvation
Reading: Matthew 1:18-25
Devotional: "You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." Names in Scripture reveal purpose, and Jesus means "Yahweh saves." But notice what He saves us from—not merely difficult circumstances, but our sins themselves. Our real enemy isn't external opposition but internal rebellion. Sin's inertia always pulls us away from God's purpose and glory, ultimately toward destruction. Jesus didn't come primarily to make your life comfortable; He came to wage war against the sin that enslaves you. His victory wasn't won through military might but through sacrificial death. On the cross, apparent defeat became eternal triumph. He paid sin's penalty so you could be forgiven and resurrected so you could have life.
Reflection Question: What specific sin is pulling you away from God right now?
