Thursday, December 18 | Two Kings Cannot Rule
Day 4: Two Kings Cannot Rule
Reading: Matthew 6:19-24; Luke 9:23-25
Devotional: You cannot serve two masters. You and Jesus cannot both sit on the throne of your life. Many of us live as functional kings, orchestrating our kingdoms according to our preferences while giving Jesus Sunday morning acknowledgment. We sacrifice others' needs for our dreams. We arrange family, career, and church around our comfort. We spend money securing our version of joy. But self-rule produces anxiety, not peace; emptiness, not fulfillment. Jesus doesn't ask for partial allegiance—He calls for complete surrender. This feels like death because it is. But here's the beautiful mystery: when we die to self-rule, we discover true life. When we submit our finances, families, futures, and fears to King Jesus, we finally experience the joy we've been chasing. What throne are you clinging to today?
